My Citrus Lane Review

After reading lots of tweets about how awesome the boxes were from Citrus Lane, after we ended our Honest membership, I caved and enrolled HUT in a three month plan to receive fun surprise boxes from Citrus Lane. At $25 a month, it was much less expensive than Honest and this time he'd be receiving a toy, plus other goodies, which is fun for me to open and for HUT to play with.

While the products that we've received in our boxes have been A+, there are quite a few kinks that this new company needs to work out, which leaves me hesitant to continue our subscription now that our three months are over.

To break it down, here are the issues we had with our monthly boxes...

April Box - Bed and Bathtime Fun

The problem I realized right off of the bat is that some of the products listed on the site were not included in my box, which left me wondering if I hadn't received everything and then left me wants some of the other items as opposed to what I had received. Especially since we were sent the incorrect toothpaste (which they did replace). My coupon code for $15 at Ecomom was quickly made inactive and I had to contact customer support to receive another one.

May Box - Fun in the Sun

This month I was emailed that the inserts were incorrect and to go online to get the proper insert. Once I did that, I realized that some kids in HUT's age group received a beach bag, while we did not. We also received a size 6-month hat for HUT. Who is 18-months. It took me quite a few emails to actually get the replacement as apparently they had quite a few issues with this box.

June Box - The Little Artist

This was our most recent box. I think that we received all of the items, but our insert made it seem as though we were supposed to receive an additional item. When I emailed support, I was called back, but I never returned their call. I'm a busy mom, and I don't have the time to chat on the phone with their support because of the lack of clarity in the insert. Truthfully, I was just fed up with having to CYA with Citrus Lane every month at this point.

So here are my suggestions:

Instead of constantly mixing up the inserts, Citrus Lane should make one insert with a page for what each aged child will receive. So you can look forward to the types of items your child might receive when they reach an older age, and to make sure that you received all of the items that were supposed to be in your child's box.

There is definitely a lack of clear communication as to what you should expect, which leaves me frustrated and constantly feeling like I'm being jipped.

That being said, we have received some pretty cool items in the boxes that we have had, which probably easily add up to the $25 expense.

Ultimately, I think that we are going to stop our Citrus Lane subscription and let the company work out all of their issues. Maybe once I feel like the expense is worth it, we will return. The products they provide really are great, and it's so fun to have a surprise to open each month.

Anyone else tried Citrus Lane? What did you think?

  1. So, we have a six month subscription and have gotten 4 boxes so far. I really like getting something fun in the mail every month, and so far there have been a couple things in every box that I've really liked, along with a couple things I could do without (ex. this month's wall decal).

I do agree that they have some kinks to work out. It seems a little much to have two big "oopsies" two months in a row. However, I have had really good customer service from them both by phone and email. (My May box was sent to our old address and when I called they immediately shipped out a new one, which was nice).

I'm sort of on the fence as to whether we'll renew. If I see a code for 20% off then I'll be more likely to resubscribe because I'll feel less guilty about spending money on something frivolous :)
