Last Friday we decided to take HUT to the local high school football game - there are only two high schools in our town and each year they have the "I-30 Classic" where they play against each other. The U and I both graduated from the main high school here in town, but HUT will most likely go to the newer one once it's time for high school.
I think that when that day comes, the U will cheer for the new team, but today he's still proud of his alma mater. I, on the other hand, am happy to switch sides to the new high school's team. My high school didn't leave me with the fondest memories, so I'm happy to cheer against it. But that's another issue more suited for a therapy session.
They had a little fair type thing that night, so we took HUT over to watch the band, see the cheerleaders, eat some food and walk around. He was mesmerized by all of it. The kids, the music, the people.
Then he decided he had had enough of daddy holding him and when we put him down, he had a dance party in the middle of the parking lot. I thought that I was recording it on my phone and, when he was down, I realized that I had never hit the record button.
Pregnancy brain at its finest. It would have been a priceless video - HUT has some serious dance moves people.
I managed to catch the end of his second dance session, which he topped off with a bit of a drum sequence on a cardboard box. He's a character, this child of mine.
Once we headed into the stadium, he let us sit for about half of the first quarter to watch some of the game. We live in one of those Texas towns with a bit of a monstrosity of a high school football stadium (although not nearly as crazy as this one). For the U and I it was just so much different than the dinky stadium that we remember from high school. Either way it was pretty fun to see the people, the children, the pomp and circumstance.
I must admit - I'm not sure there is anything quite like high school football in Texas. It's so serious - these parents and people from my hometown are hardcore. I don't think that the crowd at my college football games could rival the noises we heard last night when the teams scored.
{ This is HUT's "say cheese!" face whilst eating cheesy popcorn - his new fav after Friday night }
Once it started to sprinkle, and we could tell that HUT was desperately nearing bedtime, we headed home. I had to miss my favorite part - the halftime show - but it was a really fun night that I hope we do again soon. Next time I hope that we can figure out a way to be in seats that HUT can roam around in (if those even exist in these huge stadiums anymore).

High school football games are so much fun! We're hoping to go to a few from the school we graduated from this year, too!
