I had called the office and the nurse informed me that there was "no travel during the third trimester. Period."
I had a hard time believing that, so in I went (with my mom and HUT in tow) to my appointment to see what the doc would say. We're lucky that she's a family friend, so I feel comfortable asking her about just about anything.
Anywho, she gave me the go ahead to fly at 33-34 weeks. She actually said she was more comfortable with me flying then, barring my pregnancy is smooth sailing until that point, than at 30 weeks because if I were to go into labor, the chances of delivering a healthy baby would be much higher. She also is familiar with where we're going and the closest hospital would be the same one that her own sister gave birth at.
PHEW.
So now my big ol' preggo body is going to be wearing a maternity bridesmaid dress and standing up in front of quite a few people. And, while the bridesmaids are all skinny, cute Cali girls, I'm going to take solace in the fact that, while I'll be the fattest up there in the wedding, at least I'll have a good excuse for my size. :)
Here's the dress (but it will be in a different color):

Here's to hoping for a healthy pregnancy from here until January when we finally get to meet our little one (which I would have wished for with or without the ability to fly)!
Any recs on compression socks for the flight and any other tips?

gorgeous dress! my doctor said only no travel starting from 36 weeks, and i looked at various airline travel policies and most of them allowed women to travel up until the last month of pregnancy. i'll be bringing a doctor's note with me just in case when we go on our babymoon at 30 weeks.
ReplyDeleteMy doctor made me wear the compression socks while flying at 4 almost 5 months pregnant. They are hideous and SO not trendy. When I asked for a more fashionable option he laughed at me. So off I went to buy them. At the specialty pharmacy they said the knee highs were best and that full on hose were not necessary. Thank goodness! They are difficult to put on and were around $25 for the pair. You might even need help getting them on! But at least it will be winter and you can hide them in some boots! He also made me take a note from him in case any problems arose.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is gorgeous! I will be flying at 26 weeks to visit my husband's family and my midwife said that the most important thing was to try to stand up and move a bit every hour. Also, drink plenty of water as flying can be dehydrating. Although, I am a bit worried about that since I don't want to have to use the plane restroom... lol! Sending you good thoughts for a healthy Mom and baby!
ReplyDeletelove that dress. I'm glad you talked to your doctor-- I flew at 28 weeks and did fine... my doc told me the cut off was 34 weeks, but that with a doctor's note, he would allow it if I wanted to travel. You will be fine. I guess one tip about traveling late in your pregnancy is to try to take a lot of breaks and drink tons of water.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress!! My doctor would have been fine with me flying. We ended up driving 3 hours away at 38 weeks- her comment- well, they have hospitals everywhere!!
