With this pregnancy I'm not caving into indulgences as often (save for dessert), and I'm actually counting calories. While I would normally give myself about 1200-1500 before I got pregnant, no that that was always followed, I'm allotting myself about 2000 per day right now. Which is more than enough because I rarely go over my calorie count and I'm definitely not always concerned about what exactly it is that I'm eating.
I'm using My Fitness Pal to keep track of what I'm putting in my mouth and I swear that thing helps me make better choices while eating.
So far? I've gained about 7 lbs. and I'm 15, almost 16, weeks in. Still a gain, but not nearly as much as I had gained the first go round. And if I stay around this amount of gain per each trimester, then I'll be happy with that. Especially since I didn't come close to losing all of the weight gain from the first go round.
The toughest part is going to be losing it after the baby... but we'll worry about that after I have a healthy baby resting in my arms.
So, the exercise part. Although I have to be pretty active with this crazy toddler o'mine, I am not working events like I was with HUT so I don't think that I'm burning quite the same amount of calories. To help with this, I'm hoping to start hitting the gym just for a little treadmill time here and there now that I'm starting to see the light from the morning sickness tunnel.
And, after doing a bit of research online, I purchased these two suckers for cheap to do while at home. Because this Texas heat is no freaking joke and I will not be going outside for any sort of exercise.
So here's to hoping that I can be a little more proactive with this pregnancy when it comes to my health. Because, unlike after HUT, I fully plan to lose all of this weight and more once I get the go ahead to exercise after baby dos.
What are you guys doing to keep the weight gain down while pregnant? Do you think that you're more conscious about what you're putting in your mouth if it's your second time around?

I tried to only eat when hungry during the pregnancy... But I will still swear by breastfeeding exclusively. If you exclusively breastfeed, you should see the lbs melt off after your sweet baby arrives. I think it's so much easier than counting calories and watching what you eat. Sounds like you're on the right track this time around! Good luck!!

I have a once-used prenatal yoga DVD sitting on my TV console. :) I'm just so exhausted after work, I don't want to do it. I need someone to motivate me, someone to force me to change into workout clothes when I get home rather than slipping into my PJ's and onto the couch! I'm 20 weeks on Wednesday which means I have half my pregnancy left to exercise! Eeeeeps! We can do it!
ReplyDeletei bought a couple of prenatal workout/yoga dvds--we'll see how it goes. i used one once and almost died, and the other i started using, got bored and stopped. but i'll try again, maybe a different routine! good luck to you!
ReplyDeletenice! which do you like more? i'm nervous (and tired) to get into exercise again!
