Catching Up

So now that we've shared the big news, here are a few things to fill you in on that I haven't been able to post for the past few months...

This pregnancy is rough.

I'm talking I have never been so nauseous and exhausted 24/7 in my life. I've had a few moments when, coupled with exhaustion, I sit there crying and thinking that I will never feel better again. I've had a ton of help from the U and my mom, but that only makes you feel a bit worse when others are doing your jobs for you. Getting one errand a day is a huge accomplishment. I'm hoping now that we've hit 12 weeks, some of this will subside. Oh, how I hope this will happen.

That taste in my mouth.

I am one of those lucky pregnant women who gets a horrible taste in their mouth all of the time. After I eat it tends to get worse, which only adds to the nausea. I can't explain the taste and I'm not really sure why I get it, but it's pretty darn awful. And the only way that I seem to be able to get rid of it, and usually the nausea, is to eat. Which doesn't bode well for that weight gain thing. Any tips/tricks and healthy snack ideas are much appreciated.

I've popped.

Like majorly popped. Although I started this pregnancy overweight, I've been trying (not always succeeding) at watching what I eat and how many calories I take in each day to make sure that I don't have a 60 lb. weight gain like I did with HUT. So, while I have gained some weight, it's not a crazy amount and my belly is already pretty big. I know they say that it happens faster with the second pregnancy, but hot damn, I wasn't expecting this at 10 weeks in:

{ please ignore our bedroom, it's in a perpetual mess now that I'm pretty much worthless for the majority of the day }

Now I'm two weeks further in and the belly has grown a tad more. And since my of my old maternity clothes are for fall/winter work wear, I've had to be creative with what I have and make a few purchases (on sale and at cheapo stores because I'm NOT all about spending a fortune on these clothes) via Gap, Old Navy, Zulily, Motherhood Maternity and Dorothy Perkins.

I suspect I'll make a few others before the summer is over. I'll write all about my adventures in online maternity clothing purchases later.

It's HOT y'all.

I feel terrible for women in Texas who have to be six months plus preggo in the heat this year. HUT and I are taking a last minute trip to Cali to spend a week with my mom and her family to escape the heat while the poor U stays back here.

And we'll be back to Cali for most of August as well. Mom and I are going to road trip it, where the U will join us later in the trip. We are probably completely insane for attempting a road trip with HUT at this age, but I'm sure it will make for lots of interesting blog stories.

Either way, I'm super fortunate to be able to escape this uncomfortable heat for a decent chunk of the summer that I'm preggo.

We are excited!

We are so excited to be adding to our family. Nervous? Hells yeah. Life with two little kiddos is going to be a challenge, but we are as ready as we can be for it. Since I was so much younger than my brothers (by 15 and 17 years), I am thrilled to watch my own kids grow up close together and, hopefully, become great friends.

I'd be lying if I said that I am not currently a ball of nerves about a having healthy pregnancy because of the little scare we had during HUT's pregnancy. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will be a-ok and I can finally breathe a full sigh of relief and enjoy the rest of being pregnant.

So, that's it for now. Aside from feeling poopy, the big debate around these parts is boy or girl - and while I'm sure everyone has their preference, as long as this child is happy and healthy, I don't really care what the sex is. That being said, you know I'm going to find out as soon as I get the chance!

  1. Wishing you the best of luck with this pregnancy.

I am always curious to know more about pregnancies from the other side, where women feel sick and down and out, because I am (fortunately) one of those women who don't experience really any pregnancy symptoms by comparison, other than light nausea during the first trimester. However, I did pop like you very early on (I'm talking 8th week) with the second one, and it really took me by surprise.

Glad you can escape the summer heat this year, and thankfully, I am in CA during the worst months of the summer during the worst months of pregnancy. Thankfully it is only in the 80s here.

  2. I'm so happy for you guys! (Which is sort of weird since I don't actually know you, but whatever.) I'm definitely curious how my body will handle the next pregnancy given that my first was pretty easy. It's interesting how different they can be, and I'm sure running around after an active toddler makes it that much harder. I was sure feeling sorry for my cousin who lives in San Antonio and just gave birth last week. I wouldn't have wanted to be 9 mos pregnant in that heat for anything in the world!

  3. Many, many congratulations! I'm just at 16 weeks and feel your pain with the nausea. I'm one of those unlucky that is still feeling it now, though it is only in the mornings. Diet Ginger Ale has been a LIFE SAVER. A few sips and I start to feel better. The snacks are harder, because it seems that carbs are what help! For now, just eat what makes you feel better! Have a great time in Cali! Looking forward to keeping up with your journey on the blog!
